Cancún

Playa Las Perlas

🏖️ Private beach 🕐 Abierto las 24 horas

Just as you enter Cancún’s famous Hotel Zone, you’ll find Playa Las Perlas, one of the first public beachfront options coming from downtown and one of the favorite spots for both locals and visitors looking for a calm and accessible alternative on the Caribbean coast.

Unlike many beaches surrounded by hotels, Las Perlas stands out for its free and easy access as well as a good range of public services, making it a must-visit if you want to enjoy the sea without paying for exclusive access.

Services and family-friendly atmosphere

Playa Las Perlas offers everything you need for a comfortable day by the sea:

  • Free parking (although limited, so arriving early is recommended).
  • Public restrooms and showers to freshen up after swimming.
  • Lifeguards on duty during set hours for safer swimming.
  • Palapas, shaded areas, tables, and even children’s play areas for families.
  • Improved accessibility with amphibious wheelchairs and ramps for people with disabilities, making it an inclusive beach.

The waves are usually gentle and the waters shallow, ideal for walking with children or relaxing without strong surf. Its calm environment also makes it great for walking, watching the sunrise, or doing light activities such as paddleboarding or kayaking.

Additionally, it is located near hotels and condominiums such as Hotel Imperial Las Perlas and Ocean View Cancun Arenas, making it easy to combine a beach visit with nearby accommodation or dining.

Sargassum presence and cleaning

Like other northern beaches in Cancún, Playa Las Perlas can be affected by sargassum, especially during the arrival season from roughly April to September, with the highest likelihood of accumulation between May and August. However, this varies depending on ocean currents and yearly weather conditions.

Unlike some areas of the Hotel Zone that benefit from continuous hotel-funded cleaning, this beach relies mainly on municipal cleanup efforts. As a result, sargassum may sometimes remain for longer periods before being removed, particularly during peak seasons or when currents shift unexpectedly.
